Where are the Florida and New Jersey reefs located?

Off the coasts of Sarasota, Florida and Ocean City, New Jersey

Is the area where you place the memorials a known place where people can dive to visit their beloved pets?

You and your family can visit our reef sites by boat with the GPS coordinates we send you after the placement of the Memorial Reef you purchased. Diving will depend on the site and your level of skill. For example, our reef site off the coast of Sarasota is in less than 40 feet of water. Our Ocean City, NJ Reef is located in deeper water, and it can be very cold. Your skill level and the recommendations of a professional divemaster should be considered before attempting any dive.

I’d like to save some of my pet’s ashes. How much ash do I need to send?

It is completely up to you to decide how much, if any, of the cremated remains you would like to send us to add to the Memorial Reef you purchase.

What photos are provided?

A keepsake photo of the reefs placed will be emailed if purchasing a Companion Reef and mailed in a custom folder if purchasing the Pack or Individual Memorial Reef.

For the individual reef, what about the future death of other family pets after you drop the reef into the ocean?

Once the Memorial Reef has been placed on the ocean floor it may not be moved or altered in any way. You would have the GPS coordinates of the individual reef and at the time of your next pet’s passing you could purchase another individual reef and we would try to place them at the same reef site. However, there is no guarantee as our permits are issued by each state and they may change the permit’s location to a different site that is in greater need of restoration.

I have three precious remains I would like placed together. I have one very old living cat that I would like to have placed with them in an Individual Memorial when the time comes. Should I wait until she is gone to have them placed together?

Because it quickly becomes a living habitat, the Memorial cannot be altered or added to once it is on the ocean floor. However, there is no need to wait to order your Memorial Reef. You can place your order now and send us all the remains after your older cat passes so they are all together in the Memorial. In the meantime, we can start making the Memorial and plaque.

What is the process to purchase a Pet Memorial Reef? Am I able to deliver the ashes in person?

You can purchase through our website and mail us the ashes. If you would like to learn more about an attended option, the Memorial Gathering is a multi-day event featuring family participation in the preparation and placement of the Memorial Reef.

When are the Pet Reefs placed in the ocean? Can I be present when my reef is placed?

They are typically deployed quarterly at our various locations. If you wish to be present at your pet’s dedication, please purchase a Memorial Gathering package. Otherwise, all Pet Reef dedications are attended only by our crew.

If I order Companion Reefs for more than one pet, will their ashes be put into the same Reef Ball?

If you have purchased multiple Companion Reefs for your pets, you can mail all the ashes at one time, and we will include them together in the same Memorial Reef.

What are my options if I choose an individual or private cremation versus a communal cremation for my pet?

The only way to guarantee a specific location of a pet’s final resting place in a Memorial Reef is to purchase one of our products and send us the cremated remains of your pet.

Typically, our pet parents arrange for a private or individual cremation so they will have the cremated remains returned to them. Once you have the remains back from the crematorium you may send them to us to secure a spot in our Florida or New Jersey Pet Reef (your choice). The Memorial Gathering option offers additional Memorial Reef locations and family participation. Pet Memorials can contain some, all, or none of your pet’s cremated remains. It is up to you if you would like to send us the cremated remains to be added to a Pet Reef. Once placed, we will send you GPS coordinates of the Memorial Reef so you can visit any time by boat.

If you choose a communal cremation the remains will not be sent back to you, and we will not be able to include them in a specific reef location. Communally cremated remains we receive in bulk are built into Reef Balls and placed in areas of greatest need in the Gulf of Mexico and off the coast of New Jersey. However, this does not have to stop you from purchasing a Pet Reef that is dedicated in their memory but does not contain their remains.
